========================================
NAVIGRAPH NEWSLETTER
========================================

Dear Heinz Schneider.

IN THIS NEWSLETTER:

- AIRAC CYCLE 0802 AVAILABLE
- NEW AIRPORT CHART FORMAT IN NDAC
- REMINDER: BACKUP NDAC DATA REGULARLY

=== AIRAC CYCLE 0802 AVAILABLE ===

Cycle 0802 is now available in the FMS Data section of the Navigraph website (http://www.navigraph.com/www/fmsdata.asp).

Each cycle costs 20 credits, independent on the number of addons/downloads you make during that cycle. We also offer an annual cycle package (13 cycles) for 200 credits - a 23% discount compared to purchasing each cycle individually.

=== NEW AIRPORT CHART FORMAT IN NDAC ===

Starting from next chart revision, batch 11 expected end of FEB08, a new airport chart format will gradually be introduced in the nDAC software. The gradual change will first affect smaller European airports and by 2009 all airport charts are expected to adhere to the new format.

The change in format is an initiative taken by our data provider, European Aeronautical Group, in their ongoing work of improving and expanding their airport charts and Route Manual product.

Some notable changes in the new format are:

- New chart names
- Chart numbering including frame text
- Introduction of Communications Box on several chart types
- Enhanced symbology
- Improved presentation of altitudes
- Presentation of Take-off minima on aerodrome charts
- Depiction of landing minima

For a complete description of the new format, please download the new legend (http://www.navigraph.com/www/download/na…hart_legend.pdf). This file is also available from inside the nDAC software by pressing the F1-key.

At this point we do not have the resources to answer questions relating aeronautical navigation or your familiarization to the new chart format. We recommend that you ask your fellow experienced flight simmers in one of the many excellent online forums for advise. We are of course at your disposal for questions of technical nature. However, please check to see if the answer to your question is not already available in our FAQs at http://www.navigraph.com/www/support.asp. Technical support questions should be sent to support{at}navigraph.com.

Here are some quick facts that might answer your immediate questions:

- The rate of change is determined by how fast the engineers at European Aeronautical Group can convert the chart format. We can at this point not give any time indications as to when a certain airport is expected to change to the new format. We expect all airports to have changed format by 2009.

- The enroute charts are not affected by the new format.

- No update or modification of the nDAC software or your printer is necessary to accommodate for the new format.

- The price of an airport will not change. Downloading an airport will still be 2 credits.

- It is unfortunately not possible to see in the nDAC Download Manager tab which airports that are of the new format and which ones that are of the old before downloading a new airport.

- If you have downloaded an airport of the new format and you want to revert it to the old format you must restore the old format from your backup. (In general we recommend that you backup your current charts before updating to a new revision.)

=== REMINDER: BACKUP NDAC DATA REGULARLY ===

Lately we have noticed an increase in inquires to the support department relating to lost nDAC data due to system or hardware malfunction (e.g. HD crash, failing motherboard), or system replacement. This once again puts focus on the scheduled backup request function we incorporated in the nDAC software in September 2006.

While we of course are very sorry for users that are experiencing technical difficulties with their computers, we cannot reinstate credits or offer you to download all of your chart data again. The reason we do not allow free re-downloads is twofold:

1) The chart data on the server is updated every three months, so free downloads one year later would mean free updates over four revisions. We cannot allow free updates as per the contract with our data provider, and we cannot keep old data.

2) If we allowed free downloads of previously downloaded charts we would have even larger problems with piracy and account sharing, which is not acceptable.

For these precise reasons we constructed the nDAC software to automatically remind you to make backups. It does this every week by default. It also recommends you to save the file on a different physical medium (USB drive, CD ROM, external network device) to make sure you data is safe.

Take a second right now to check that you have a current backup. If not - create one right now!

The number of airport charts are now 22,655 (previously 21,581), in a total of 1,183 airports (previously 1,147). The new and revised airport charts are distributed over 214 airports worldwide.

Out of these 214 revised airports, 19 have also been fully converted to the new airport chart format, specifically EEKA, EEKE, EEPU, EFLP, EFMA, EFSI, EGNC, EGPN, ENLI, ENSG, ESKK, ESOE, ESUP, FABL, FAUP, HHAS, LFSG, LOWW and LRIA. The airport chart format change was announced in an earlier newsletter, available at http://www.navigraph.com/.
